Jake was born in Reno, Nevada, but has lived most of his life in Spokane, Washington. His family moved around a lot growing up, and even spent a little over two years in Argentina. From that experience, he can still speak Español. He attended Washington State University, and graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He is both ISSA and CrossFit Level 1 certified. During the work week, Jake trains athletes one-on-one, then coaches the Saturday WODs. Outside of the gym, he works for the business development side of UPS. Jake and his wife Stephanie have a future CrossFitter named Blaine and two dogs, Harley and Dylan.
“I consider myself to be a pretty social guy, and I love helping people improve themselves. I feel fortunate that most of what I do involves working directly with others. I love being active, and don’t feel right in the head if I don’t do something that gets my heart pumping each day.” Jake began as a distance runner in high school, and competed in as many intramural sports in college as possible. Eventually, he ended up getting hurt and needed to find something besides running to stay in shape. From that experience, he discovered CrossFit, and hasn’t looked back since. Besides CrossFitting, Jake also likes hiking, camping, wakeboarding, running, sports, movies, reading, and trying new things.
Jake admits that he is addicted to CrossFit and has zero interest in going back to the boredom of isolated muscle training. “For me, CrossFit isn’t a job; it is a way of life.”
